Highlights

Save when you book three popular Easter Island tours to Ahu Akivi, Orongo and Anakena Beach. Visit famous ceremonial sites to admire mysterious 'moai,' stone giants carved by the indigenous Rapa Nui, on half-day and full-day trips available each day of the week. Archaeology lessons aren't the only thing you'll get out of this discounted package: walk the volcanic hills of Rano Raraku, ponder over birdmen paintings in the Ana Kai Tangata cave, wander about the shale-stone homes of Orongo village, and dig your toes into the white sand at Anakena beach.

Ahu Akivi, Ahu Vinapu and Puna Pau Archaeological Tour:

On this 3.5-hour tour, explore the enigmatic stone giants of the protected Rapa Nui National Park that spreads across Easter Island. The UNESCO World Heritage site contains about 900 moai, statues of human figures carved from volcanic stone, believed to represent Rapa Nui ancestors and high-ranking tribal members. On average, moai stand 13 feet (4 meters) tall and weigh 14 tons (13 metric tons). Many of them stand on ahu, or ceremonial platforms.

Visit Ahu Akivi and learn why its seven moai take the unusual position of looking out toward the water. At Ahu Vinapu, listen to why its masonry resembling Incan construction indicates Easter Island may have seen visitors long before than popularly believed. Travel to Puna Pau and see pukao, or topknots, on top of several moai heads. Make a brief stop in the harbor town of Hanga Piko to observe a restored ceremonial moai.

Tahai, Orongo and Rano Kau Half-Day Tour:

Discover the archaeological wonders on the southwestern coast of the island on this 3.5-hour tour. Meander through the Tahai ceremonial complex, where you’ll see restored moai of various sizes and shapes at the ahu of Ko Te Riku, Tahai and Vai Uri. Inside the cave of Ana Kai Tangata located along the crashing surf, observe many petroglyphs with a bird motif and listen to stories about the ancient ritual of ‘Tangata Manu,’ where Rapa Nui men made the treacherous swim to a nearby islet in a race to collect the first egg laid by a sooty tern.

Capture stunning views of Rano Kau volcano and its crater lake before moving on to the village of Orongo, where you'll find over 50 elliptical-shaped dwellings made of shale. Learn about the village’s role in birdmen rites between the 17th and 19th centuries, and then wander the grounds on your own.

Rano Raraku and Anakena Beach Full-Day Tour Including Lunch Tour:

Spend a full day exploring the southeastern and northeastern parts of Easter Island. Discover Ahu Akahanga in its original state and learn about its toppled moai scattered about the area. Then visit Ahu Tongariki, the largest ceremonial site with 15 upright moai, restored after being destroyed and displaced by a tsunami. While at the Rano Raraku volcano and quarry, where the Rapa Nui had sculpted moai, note the hundreds of moai heads and partially visible torsos popping up from the grassy knolls.

After a BBQ lunch (provided), head to Ahu Te Pito Kura to gawk at the tallest moai ever erected and a round magnetic stone dubbed the ‘navel of the world.' Finish the day at Anakena beach, a paradise cove of white sand against a backdrop of coconut palm trees, believed to be the landing site of the island’s first settlers from Polynesia. Blue waters and soft sand may not be new to you, but it’s not every day you get to lounge on a beach with the six extremely well-preserved moai of Ahu Nau Nau behind you.
