From
Photograph wildlife and nature like a pro! Discover our small-group exclusive
photography tours. Over three hours you’ll get unprecedented access to advice
from expert photographers and view Zealandia through a whole new lens.
These tours are for keen beginners, ambitious amateurs, and accomplished
photographers – anyone seeking to capture incredible once-in-a lifetime
moments in nature.
Join Zealandia’s resident photographers on a stroll through the sanctuary to
photograph the very best of New Zealand’s native flora and fauna. Capture
raindrops on fern fronds, light shining through the forest canopy, and the
striking detail and colour of bird feathers.
We will walk at a slow pace, with plenty of time for advice from our resident
photographers and for you to try your best shot. As Zealandia is a wild
environment, every tour will be different. Our photographers will cover
different photography styles depending on what we see on the day. You will
spend time at different locations throughout the sanctuary.
WHAT TO BRING:
To ensure you have the best experience on your tour, please remember:
We ask everyone to conduct a biosecurity check of their bags before entering the sanctuary to ensure that Zealandia stays free from predators and invasive species. Please follow your guide’s instructions during the tour.
This is an early-morning walk. Please remember that you are unlikely to see kiwi on this tour.
Please arrive 10–15 minutes early, as late arrivals may miss their tour. For tours after 5pm, the Visitor Centre opens 30 minutes beforehand. After hours entry is up the driveway to the right of the building. There will be a sign directing you to this side entrance.
This is a 3.5-hours guided outdoor experience, and tours commence in all weather conditions.
Please bring with you: A waterproof jacket, plus additional warm layers, your camera and tripod (if you have one), sunscreen and sunhat, a water bottle and snacks. Waterproof lens/camera covers (if you have these).
Sturdy footwear is essential as the ground is rough and uneven in places. For Health & Safety reasons we may turn away those with unsuitable footwear, e.g. jandals.
Smoking or vaping is not permitted at any time within Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne or the Visitor Centre.
Photography Etiquette: Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne is a safe space for many
endangered species. We ask you to please respect their wellbeing by staying on
the path and following your guide's lead. Please do not pursue and disturb
wildlife to gain the ultimate picture.
