  Nefertari, also known as Nefertari Meritmut, was an Egyptian queen and the primary wife of Ramesses the Great, holding the title of Great Royal Wife. Her name means "beautiful companion" and "Beloved of [the goddess] Mut". Nefertari is one of the most famous Egyptian queens, alongside other notable women such as Cleopatra, Nefertiti, and Hatshepsut. Although she is not known to have reigned in her own right, she was highly educated and possessed the rare skill of being able to read and write hieroglyphs. She utilized her abilities in her diplomatic work, exchanging correspondence with other prominent royals of the time. Her tomb, QV66, is one of the largest and most elaborately decorated in the Valley of the Queens.
