Highlights
Green Wave Pavilion (Lvbolang) is one of Shanghai’s most iconic restaurants, with a history dating back to 1559 during the Ming Dynasty. Originally a traditional tea house, the site was part of the western garden pavilions of Yuyuan Garden. In 1924, it operated as the Lepulang Teahouse, and in 1979, it officially opened as Green Wave Pavilion Restaurant, specializing in Shanghai and Suzhou style refreshments.
Renowned for its classic Shanghai local cuisine, Green Wave Pavilion is especially famous for signature dishes such as Sautéed Eel with Scallion Oil and Braised River Eel. The restaurant is also celebrated for its traditional dim sum and boat shaped pastries, and has long been a preferred venue for hosting world leaders, state guests, and distinguished figures, earning an international reputation.
In 1986, during her visit to Chenghuang Temple and Yuyuan Garden, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom dined at Green Wave Pavilion and praised its cuisine, commenting that it demonstrated “exquisite craftsmanship and outstanding flavor.”
