Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse sits at the tip of a spectacular peninsula where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. Situated at the most south westerly point of Australia, on one of the world's three great capes, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia.
Guided tours will take you to the top of this historic lighthouse, where you’ll learn fascinating stories about the lightkeepers, the region’s maritime heritage, and the tower’s unique craftsmanship. From the top, you can take in spectacular views of the cape and its rugged coastline.
Visitors can also explore the Interpretive Centre, housed inside one of the original lightkeeper’s cottages, an immersive experience that celebrates the history and lives of the men, women and children who once lived at the tallest lighthouse in mainland Australia.
Passes to explore the accessible heritage site and Lightkeeper's Cottage are available for purchase on site.
Itinerary
Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse
Admission Ticket IncludedYour guide will take you on a trip through maritime history as you wind your way up the spiral staircase inside the lighthouse tower. This famous landmark was constructed from locally quarried limestone in 1895; and still functions as a vital working lighthouse for vessels navigating the treacherous cape. Discover the importance of Cape Leeuwin to early mariners and hear stories of the hardships faced by the early lighthouse keepers and their families. Once at the top of the tower you will be awed by views over the immense ocean, crashing waves and wilderness of the landscape. There are regular sightings of dolphins and you may even spot whales migrating between May and September. The spectacular surroundings are enhanced by the beautifully restored keepers’ cottages. Plan time to include a walk around the grounds and enjoy the spectacular surrounds at this beautiful heritage site. Complete your visit by relaxing over coffee and home-made refreshments at the Cape Leeuwin Cafe.
