Highlights
Repousse art is an ancient technique used throughout the history of metalworking. Repoussé is a method of decorating metals in which parts of the design are raised in relief from the back or the inside of the article by means of hammers and punches; definition and detail can then be added from the front by chasing or engraving. It is an ideal workshop to delve deeper into the dedication and hard work to create a masterpiece through this art.
Itinerary
Nagbahaa नागबहा
The exploration of Repoussé Art begins in the heart of Patan, where local artisans welcome you into their workshop and introduce you to the rich history and cultural value of this intricate metalworking tradition. In this immersive 7–8 hour workshop, you'll be guided step-by-step through the repoussé process, learning how to shape and engrave metal by hand with the help of skilled experts. Midway through, enjoy a traditional Newari lunch to recharge before continuing your creative journey. Along the way, the artisans will share insights into how repoussé art is deeply woven into Nepalese architecture and rituals—often adorning temple doorways or used in sacred ceremonies. By the end of the day, you’ll have crafted your own bronze alms bowl, a meaningful keepsake forged through your day-long effort and cultural discovery.
