as you like within 12 hours from the first use. Whether you are heading to
popular spots like the Sapporo TV Tower, the Clock Tower, Hokkaido Jingu
Shrine, or Maruyama Zoo, you can travel easily and enjoy a free and convenient
riding experience.
- Five Principles for Safe Riding -
In principle, bicycles should be ridden on the road; riding on sidewalks is only an exception.
● You may only ride on the sidewalk if there is a traffic sign allowing it
(limited to standard bicycles).
● If there is no sign, there are three exceptions: (1) Children under 13
(including elementary school students) and seniors over 70, (2) Persons with
physical disabilities, (3) Unavoidable circumstances (road construction, heavy
traffic, narrow roads, etc.). Bicycles should be ridden on the left side of
the road.Riding on the left side of the road is a fundamental traffic rule.
● Riding on the right side of the road increases the relative speed with cars,
which is dangerous.
● Riding on the right is equivalent to driving against traffic for those
traveling correctly on the left. This not only causes trouble for others but
also makes it difficult for car drivers to notice cyclists at intersections,
creating a hazard.Sidewalks should be yielded to pedestrians.
● When riding on a sidewalk, you should give priority to pedestrians and slow
down on the side closer to the road.
● Please walk your bicycle in areas where there are pedestrians.Follow safety rules.
● Under Japanese law, bicycles are considered vehicles and are classified as
light vehicles.
● You must obey traffic signals and stop signs just like cars.
● Especially at intersections, ensure you perform thorough safety checks.
● The first step of a safety check is to make eye contact with car drivers and
pedestrians to communicate your intentions.
● A friendly attitude and mutual yielding are the keys to safe riding.Drunk driving is prohibited.
● Just like with cars, drunk driving on a bicycle is subject to severe
penalties, which may include up to 5 years in prison or a fine of up to 1
million yen.
● When planning to drink, choose smart travel options such as walking or using
public transportation to get home.
● You can increase your own safety by properly signaling your presence to
those around you.
● Just like cars, bicycles must have their lights on at night.
● Porocle lights automatically sense low light and turn on, so you can use the
bicycle with peace of mind.
● Unless explicitly permitted by road signs or other means, bicycles must not
be ridden side-by-side with other bicycles.
● Do not ride a bicycle while using an umbrella, holding items, or in any
situation that obstructs your vision or makes your line of sight unstable.
● Do not talk on a mobile phone or operate buttons while riding.
● Do not ride a bicycle while wearing headphones, headsets, or other devices
that prevent you from hearing your surroundings.
