Ryan took us through the workshop with patience and shared a lot of his knowledge about tintype photography with us. We learnt a lot and enjoyed ourselves. Thank you!
Prior to the session, I had been very interested to participate in a tintype session and learning more about this specific analogue process of photography, but did not have the capacity to book a session because of monetary costs. When this new workshop was announced at a price range which I could afford, I had a session booked immediately. The highlight of the session for me was seeing how consistent and effortlessly Ryan was able to set up the collodion plates, which may look easy to an untrained eye but is not an easy task. Very thankful to the team at Hip Xiong Photo Studio for keeping wet plate photography accessible and alive in Singapore.
Ryan is very knowledgable and friendly throughout the whole experience. He engages in conversation and shares the details and rationale of each step. This experience is an unforgettable one as we not only enjoyed our images being captured, but we also were involved in the end to end process. Very cool experience and nice space. Everything was worth and I would recommend going multiple times.
If you're looking for an activity that is rare and doesn't take up too much time, this is it. A very concise, straight up no nonsense hands-on experience that you wouldn't want to miss. Bonus points for awesome coffee (you can smell it once you enter the rustic shop house along the road @ Geylang Road) and of course, meeting the sweet and kind person behind the camera, Ryan. This is probably an experience that you'd like to keep, together with your own personal tintype portrait for a long long time!
We had an amazing experience here. The host was very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft, explaining each step with care and enthusiasm. He was patient and made the whole process enjoyable and memorable. I highly recommend this experience to anyone interested or feel like trying something unique.
Ryan was so thoroughly engaging throughout the session. the elements of the session were so well planned and intentional. he goes through a brief "teaching" and demonstration portion, before letting us have a try. it's a great experience for anyone who is keen on doing bits of hands on, while still experiencing something novel. the craft is such a hidden gem and you'll definitely leave with a deep appreciation for the art. 10/10 recommend and it's worth every cent :)
I love how Ryan is so meticulous when going through the flow of the process for the protrait and got us hands on to "print" out our photo with chemicals. Totally worth it and worth the travelling !
This was a very interesting experience! Ryan was clear in his explanation, and he is friendly to make small talk to put us at ease. He is knowledgeable and and patient with is old folks as well. We were able to use our Cultural pass voucher as well!
