Highlights

Step into Japan’s living history with a one-day tour from Nagoya to the UNESCO treasures of Shirakawa-go and Hida Takayama, a seamless blend of rustic charm and cultural richness. Your adventure begins in Hida Takayama. Dubbed “Little Kyoto” for its Edo-era streets, its wooden facades house sake breweries, craft shops, and the aroma of Hida beef sizzling on grills. Stroll the lively Miyagawa Morning Market—one of Japan’s top three—where vendors hawk seasonal treats. Try Takayama ramen and buy handmade souvenirs, for a taste of local life against a backdrop of nostalgic architecture. With a guide to weave tales of samurai days and merchant traditions, this mountain town feels like a step back in time, alive with the pulse of its past.

The journey rolls on to Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage gem cradled by rugged peaks. The iconic gassho-zukuri farmhouses stand as testaments to ingenuity and endurance. Their steeply pitched, thatched roofs—designed to shrug off heavy snow—create a postcard-perfect village that’s both serene and striking. Wander among these preserved homes, some open to explore, and let the stunning alpine scenery sink in as your guide unveils the stories behind this timeless settlement.

Perfect for culture buffs and nature lovers alike, this tour from Nagoya stitches together Japan’s architectural wonders and mountain soul, delivering a day of discovery that lingers long after the road winds back to the city.

The tour guide is friendly and informative. She time keep the tour very well and we manage to eat the best raman at takayama and the best ice cream and pudding at Shiragawa village. She explains to us the history of these two places and recommends what are the things to look out for during our free and easy sessions. The bus ride is smooth and timely. We have a professional bus captain.
