This house was inhabited by the poet for more than 13 years, considered the best of his life, along with his wife Petrona Moreno and their five children Lira, Divina, León Julio, Cielo and Hugo. Some of his belongings, his mortal remains and those of his wife are preserved in the place. In it, Julio Flórez received the coronation as National Poet on January 14, 1923, recognition made by the President of the Republic Dr. Pedro Nel Ospina for his invaluable contribution to national letters. In 2002 it was elevated to the category of Cultural Heritage of the department of Atlántico, and in February 2007 it was elevated to the rank of National Monument.
