ITINERARY:


Prepare for an unforgettable four-day adventure through Australia’s iconic Red
Centre, where you will explore Uluru, Kings Canyon, Kata Tjuta, and Tjoritja
(West MacDonnell Ranges). This expertly guided tour takes you to the heart of
Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you’ll
witness some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in the world. These
ancient rock formations, unique wildlife, and spectacular views are the
essence of this legendary region.


Your guide will share fascinating stories, insider knowledge, and highlight
hidden gems, bringing the rich history and culture of the land to life. For
your comfort, we offer twin safari tents for those seeking a more relaxed
experience, or you can opt for a swag—a traditional canvas bedroll that allows
you to sleep under the stars and fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty

Day 1: Yulara or Ayers Rock Airport to Uluru


Your unforgettable outback adventure begins here! After stepping on board at
Ayres Rock Airport or Ayres Rock Resort in Yulara we will head straight into
the National Park so please make sure you have had lunch before the tour
begins. Step into the ancient lands of the Red Centre, rich in Aboriginal
heritage. Our first stop is the fascinating Cultural Centre, where you'll
explore the stories and traditions of the region. Then, it's time to meet the
star of the show – Uluru! We’ll walk around its base to the Mutitjulu
Waterhole, marvel at sacred rock art, and delve into Dreamtime stories. We’ll
also explore the stunning Kantju Gorge, home to Central Australia's tallest
waterfall and a sacred elders' cave. To end the day, we’ll watch a
spellbinding sunset at the Uluru lookout, followed by a hearty dinner to wrap
up an unforgettable day.


Day 1 Highlights: Uluru (Ayers Rock), Red Centre’s Aboriginal Cultural Centre,
Sacred Aboriginal rock art, Mutitjulu Waterhole, Kuniya Piti (seasonal),
Kantju Gorge, Uluru sunset and dinner.


Meals: Dinner. Camping: Ayers Rock Coach Campground (tents or bush swags,
communal bathrooms). Driving Distance: 60 km. Hike Distance: 2-3 km (2-3
hours).


Day 2: Uluru to Kata Tjuta to Kings Canyon


Rise and shine for an early brekkie and a dazzling sunrise over Uluru-Kata
Tjuta National Park. Just when you thought Uluru was jaw-dropping, in struts
the majestic Kata Tjuta. We’ll hike the Valley of the Winds or Walpa Gorge and
be in awe of these massive, otherworldly rock formations. Following our time
at Kata Tjuta, we stop at camp for a bite to eat before making our way to the
Kings Canyon region, we will make a brief stop at Mount Connor (often referred
to as “False Uluru” due to its similar appearance), offering a scenic
viewpoint. Next stop? Camp! Tonight, we’re camping at a super-exclusive safari
spot situated on the lands of the traditional Wanmarra community, one of the
most remote places on earth (you’re closer to the International Space Station
than the nearest McDonalds). Round off the day with a campfire feast and
outback stargazing – you’ve never seen a sky like this.


Day 2 Highlights: Spectacular sunrise at Uluru, Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), Hike
Valley of the Winds or Walpa Gorge


Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Camping: Private Kings Canyon Campsite -
Permanent Tents or Bush Swags (communal bathroom facilities). Driving
Distance: 406 km (4.5 hours). Hike Distance: 2-6 km (2-4 hours, weather
permitting).


Day 3: Kings Canyon to West MacDonnell Ranges


We head off early to explore the mighty Kings Canyon (Watarrka) venturing into
the ancient landscape and sacred grounds of the Ulpanyali and Lilla people.
Get your water bottle and hiking boots ready because Kings Canyon is calling!
With its towering cliffs, sandstone chasms, and breathtaking views, this
ancient canyon is the ultimate hiker’s dream. Conditions permitting, we’ll set
off on foot to explore the canyon, including the iconic rim walk, on the most
seasonally suitable section of the trail. Rest up in the bus as we head back
up north, travelling off-the-beaten track via the Mereenie Loop Tourist Drive
or Ernest Giles Road and heading out towards the West MacDonnell Ranges for an
evening of stargazing at our private bush camp located near Mount Sonder.


Day 3 Highlights: Kings Canyon Watarrka National Park, Mereenie Loop Drive (or
Ernest Giles Road, depending on conditions), Spectacular stargazing in the
West MacDonnells.


Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Camping: Private West MacDonnell Ranges
Campsite - Permanent Tents or Bush Swags (toilets only). Driving Distance: 370
km (4 hours). Hike Distance: 4-6 km (3-4 hours).


Day 4: Tjoritja West MacDonnell Ranges to Alice Springs


Our West MacDonnell National Park exploration unfolds amidst the towering red
walls of Ormiston Gorge. Fuel up with some breakfast while nestled within this
awe-inspiring natural wonder, taking a moment to appreciate the immense
geological forces that sculpted this landscape. Keep your eyes peeled for
native wildlife emerging with the rising sun. Next, we cool off with a
refreshing dip in the Ellery Creek Bighole (Udepata in Arrernte). Surrounded
by dramatic cliffs and sandy Ellery Creek, this permanent waterhole offers a
welcome respite in the arid outback. Continuing our journey, we arrive at
Standley Chasm (Angkerle Atwatye). This dramatic 3-meter-wide, 80-meter-high
gorge provides a stunning backdrop for our exploration. Our final stop is
Simpsons Gap, another remarkable feature of the Tjoritja West MacDonnells.
This significant site boasts a permanent waterhole attracting diverse wildlife
and holds cultural significance as the intersection of several Aboriginal
dreaming trails. With hearts full of wonder and unforgettable memories, we
return to Alice Springs, dropping you off at your chosen accommodation. Relive
your incredible four-day exploration and connect with the new friends you've
made it along the way.


Day 4 Highlights: Ormiston Gorge & Ochre Pit, Ellery Creek Big Hole, Standley
Chasm, Simpsons Gap.


Meals: Breakfast, Lunch. Driving Distance: 250 km (3 hours). Walking
Distance: 3-4 km.

  • Any meals not indicated on the itinerary. For those with special dietaries, we recommend you bring snacks as options are limited in the outback.
  • Hotel transfers pre/post tour itinerary to a nominated pickup point.
  • Personal travel insurance is highly recommended.

CHILD POLICY:


Children aged between 8 to 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult or
legal guardian at all times. Not suitable for infants or children 7 years and
under. Not suitable for infants or children 7 years and under, due to safety
requirements and the level of fitness required to complete the walks.


WEATHER:


The weather in the Red Centre can fluctuate and be extreme. It is not unheard
of for temperatures to reach over 50+ degrees Celsius in the dry season and in
the evening the temperature drops dramatically. Please ensure you have
checked the average temperatures for the time of year you are travelling and
have packed adequate clothing. In the event of rain or inclement weather, your
experience will still go ahead, unless contacted by the provider.


TRAVEL CONSIDERATIONS:


FLIGHTS ARRIVING - AYERS ROCK AIRPORT (airport code AYQ)


We will do our best to meet all Ayers Rock flights. However, there may be
delays if the group is exploring a key itinerary location. It’s essential that
both the agent and guest verify that their flight times align with our tour
schedule before booking. Lunch is not provided on Day 1, guests are encouraged
to eat before joining the tour group.


Guests arriving at Ayers Rock Airport [AYQ] on earlier flights can take the
complimentary shuttle to Yulara Resort or Ayers Rock Campground and relax at
the public swimming pool. Please be waiting at the pickup point on Yulara
Drive at least 10 minutes before departure.


UNEXPECTED DISRUPTIONS


To avoid potential travel disruptions, we strongly recommend against customers
booking departure flights on the final day of the tour. While we strive to
adhere to our itinerary, unexpected delays can occur. Please note that the
tour operator is not responsible for any costs incurred due to such delays.
For added peace of mind, we recommend purchasing travel insurance.


Travelling along the Mereenie Loop Tourist Drive is subject to weather
conditions and the safety assessments of NT Roads and the Central Land
Council. If we are unable to proceed along the Mereenie Loop, the group will
be redirected to travel via the Sturt and Lasseter Highways, resulting in a
significant increase in travel time. GLT/Autopia Tours accepts no
responsibility for this adjustment, and no refunds or compensation will be
provided for travelling on an alternative route.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION


  • Mandatory Details: Passenger details are required at the time of booking, including: Each passenger’s first name and surname / Each passenger’s date of birth / Arrival and departure point and flight number details (e.g., AYQ / QF728 12:35 on 01/04/23) / Lead passenger’s contact phone number (international or Australian)
  • Dietary Requirements: While we endeavour to cater to most dietary needs, passengers must advise dietary requirements to their booking agent at the time of booking. As we are venturing to remote areas, we are very limited in what we can source once the tour departs, so prior notice is required.
  • Medical Conditions: Please notify the tour operator of any known medical conditions when booking. This tour is physically demanding and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility. Personal travel insurance is highly recommended for all passengers.
  • Fitness Level: A minimum moderate to advanced level of fitness is required to complete the walks. The length of walks will be between 2 km to 6 km each day, often over steep rocky sections and in direct sunlight and high humidity. An approximate 12-15 km walk is included in this tour. Embarking on walks will be at the guide’s discretion to ensure the safety of guests. Therefore, a medium/high level of fitness is required, and a doctor’s certificate is required for participants over 75 years old, submitted at least 30 days prior to travel.
  • Age Restrictions: Children aged 8 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian at all times. The tour is not suitable for infants or children aged 7 and under due to safety requirements and the physical demands of the walks.
  • Mobility Considerations: This tour is not suitable for mobility-impaired travellers, including those using wheelchairs, walkers, prams, or strollers.
  • Baggage Limitations: Due to limited storage space on our vehicle, we have specific baggage allowances depending on your tour route: For One-Way Tours: Each traveller may bring 1 x 23 kg travel bag and 1 x 5 kg day bag.
  • Itinerary Variations: Itineraries may vary to adapt to seasonal changes, and occasionally sites in the parks may close for cultural reasons or restricted swimming hole access. As safety is our top priority, we plan accordingly to ensure our guests have the most enjoyable and best experience possible while on tour.
  • Guest Participation: Guests are asked to participate in the preparation of meals, clean-up, unpacking, and loading of the vehicle, so everyone can relax together after a long day of touring. It’s also a great way to get to know and connect with your fellow travellers.
