The ancient Egyptian name of the smaller island meant "boundary." As their southern frontier, the pharaohs of Egypt kept there a strong garrison, and it was also a barracks for Greek and Roman soldiers in their turn. The first religious building on Philae was likely a shrine built by Pharaoh Taharqa of the 25th Dynasty, which was probably dedicated to Amun. However, this structure is only known from a few blocks reused in later buildings, which Gerhard Haeny suspects may have been brought over for reuse from structures elsewhere.

After Breakfast, you will join an orientation Felucca around Kitchener and Elephantine Islands, then back to the Cruise. Known to the ancient Egyptians as ꜣbw "Elephant," the island of Elephantine stood at the border between Egypt and Nubia. It was an excellent defensive site for a city, and its location made it a natural cargo transfer point for river trade. This border is near the Tropic of Cancer, the most northerly latitude at which the sun can appear directly overhead at noon and from which it appears to reverse direction or "turn back" at the solstices.

After breakfast, visit one of the most well-preserved temples in Egypt in Edfu - dedicated to Horus (the Falcon God). Your guide will take a horse carriage ride to the entrance of the temple. Edfu was one of several temples built during the Ptolemaic Kingdom, including the Dendera Temple complex, Esna, the Temple of Kom Ombo, and Philae. Its size reflects the relative prosperity of the time. The present temple, which was begun "on 23 August 237 BC, initially consisted of a pillared hall, two transverse halls, and a bark sanctuary surrounded by chapels.

After the tour to Edfu temple, the Cruise will sail to "Luxor," the ancient capital of Egypt. Our tour guide will meet you at the cruise lobby to start your tour to the east of the Nile river and see the second largest temple in the world (Karnak Temple). After breakfast, we will leave the cruise and begin the tour to the West Bank of Luxor, starting with the valley of the kings. The official name for the site in ancient times was The Great and Majestic Necropolis of the Millions of Years of the Pharaoh, Life, Strength, Health in The West of Thebes or Ta-Sekhet-ma'at (the Great Field). At the start of the Eighteenth Dynasty, only kings were buried within the valley in large tombs. When a non-royal person was buried, it was in a small rock-cut chamber, close to the tomb of their master. Amenhotep III's tomb was constructed in the Western Valley. While his son Akhenaten moved his tomb's construction to Amarna, it is thought that the unfinished tomb "WV25" may have been initially intended for him. With the return to religious orthodoxy at the end of the Eighteenth Dynasty, Tutankhamun, Ay, and Horemheb returned to the royal necropolis

Hatshepsut temple is a mortuary temple built during the reign of Pharaoh Hatshepsut of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt. Located opposite the city of Luxor, it is considered to be a masterpiece of ancient architecture. Its three massive terraces rise above the desert floor and into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. The temple's twin functions are identified by its axes. On its central east-west axis, the temple served to receive the barque of Amun-Re at the climax of the Beautiful Festival of the Valley. On its north-south axis, it represented the life cycle of the pharaoh from coronation to rebirth. At the edge of the desert, 1 km (0.62 mi) east, connected by a causeway, lies the accompanying valley temple. Across the river Nile, the whole structure points towards the monumental Eighth Pylon, Hatshepsut's most recognizable addition to the Temple of Karnak.

The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who reigned in Egypt during the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt. Since 1350 BCE, they have stood in the Theban Necropolis, located west of the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor. The twin statues depict Amenhotep III (fl. 14th century BCE) in a seated position, his hands resting on his knees and his gaze facing eastwards towards the Nile river. Two shorter figures are carved into the front throne alongside his legs: these are his wife Tiye and mother Mutemwiya. The side panels depict the Nile god Hapi.

Finally, we will explore many attractions in the old Coptic area, including the Ben Ezra synagogue (the Jewish Temple). The Ben Ezra Synagogue sometimes referred to as the El-Geniza Synagogue or the Synagogue of the Levantines is situated in the Fustat part of Old Cairo, Egypt. According to local folklore, it is located on the site where baby Moses was found
