We will pick you up in Queenstown at 8.00am and drive you along the
picturesque Queenstown-Glenorchy Road beside Lake Wakatipu. Beyond Glenorchy
we drive through Paradise and at the road end enter Mt Aspiring National Park
and the renowned Routeburn Track. Cross the swing bridge and enter a
spectacular Beech Forest. The path is smooth and flat, allowing you to look
for birds as they flit through the trees - a treat is to see the Mohua
(yellowhead) a rare endemic bird usually seen in small breeding flocks plus
the native Bush Robin and NZ's smallest native bird the Rifleman.

The track follows the Routeburn River as it roars through a magnificent gorge
before plunging beneath the rocks. It is a gradual ascent through 130 million
year old magical world of ferns, mosses, lichens & beech forest. The wide
variety of flora and fauna on display is sure to impress. Our guides will also
share information about the historical significance of the Routeburn Track and
how it was used by Maori and European pioneers. There are plenty of waterfalls
to enjoy and lots of places to rest along the river. The trail is moderately
paced, rising gradually towards stunning snow-capped peaks.

The walk lasts for approximately 7 hours and moderate fitness is required. The
entire tour is approximately 10 hours including the driving.

We recommend that clients wear comfortable appropriate footwear and warm
layers all year round.

Tours operate all year round, track conditions permitting.

FAQs

What do I wear? Sturdy footwear, supportive hiking shoes with a closed
toe and no slip tread. Adequate layers as the weather can change rapidly and
maybe different to town.

What do I bring with me? Waterproof jacket, water bottle, sunglasses,
sunscreen, camera, small day pack, (optional) a hat and gloves.

How hard is the walk? The start of the walk is scenic with a gentle
incline but there are some steeper sections after reaching the Flats Hut up to
the Routeburn Falls Hut and beyond.

What if I am not fit enough to complete the walk? The Full day hike aims
to reach the Falls Hut, which is an hour with a steep incline from the Flats
Hut. The group must stay together so perhaps the Half day hike might be more
suitable if you don't think you are fit enough? If there are no other guests
on the tour, you can go at your own pace with the guide.

Where will you pick up and drop off? We will pick you up and drop you
at any central accommodation or our Info & Track / Info & Snow Office at 37
Shotover Street, Queenstown. Unfortunately we are unable to offer pickups from
the Hilton Hotel or Frankton for this tour due to traffic delays.
