13 hoursAdmission Ticket Not IncludedDay 6: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp Elevation: 5 km ascent,12 km descent Time: 7-8 hrs ascent, 4-6 hrs descent Habitat: Alpine Desert We proceed to the peak between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers early in the morning (between midnight and 2:00 am). We travel northwest and make our way over steep scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the hardest physical and mental part of the hike. You will take a break at Stella Point (18,600 ft), being rewarded with the most spectacular sunrise you are ever likely to see if weather permits. From Stella Point, it is 1-hour ascent to the summit. You have reached the highest peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Uhuru Peak. Fast hikers can see the sunrise from the peak. Beginning our descent from the summit, straight down to the Mweka camp while pausing at Barafu for lunch. We have our final meal on the mountain later in the evening before a well-earned rest. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). From the gate, you continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to the hotel in Moshi.
