Dogsled and Reindeer Day Trip to Borealis Basecamp
Dogsled and Reindeer Day Trip to Borealis Basecamp
Dogsled and Reindeer Day Trip to Borealis Basecamp
For KrisFlyer members only
Highlights
We work exclusively with local, passionate mushers who view their dog teams as their family, and you will have the chance to understand this incredible sport on your hourlong ride through the snowy forest. You will ride on a genuine dogsled, either seated or standing, as the team of 8 dogs swings through the forest with you and your guide at a comfortable but thrilling pace. You will also have the chance to see the dog kennels, and a replica of a dog-sled race checkpoint, where the competitive mushers stop for fuel and rest on their long winter races.
On your reindeer tour, our experienced reindeer handlers will introduce you to the herd of reindeer at Borealis Basecamp, and you can feed, meet, and take pictures with these incredible animals.
Itinerary
Borealis Basecamp
We'll pick you up from your hotel in the morning. It's a 45 minute drive North on the world famous Elliott Highway to Borealis Basecamp. We are located in the heart of the Boreal Forest, with panoramic views of the valley. Included in your trip is a 1-hour dogsledding tour & a 30-minute long reindeer meet and greet tour. We work with local passionate mushers who view their dogs as their family, and you will have the chance to understand this incredible sport on your ride through the snowy forest. On this 30 minute long tour you have the chance to meet our Alaskan born reindeer. They live at Basecamp all year, eating a diet of reindeer feed and natural treats. Your tour guide will show you how reindeer live in the Arctic year round and give you the opportunity to feed and take photos with them! Lunch is held at Latitude 65, our on-site restaurant. The menu consists of hot and cold sandwiches, noodle dishes, and a rotating menu of features and fresh soups. You may also enjoy some of our complimentary resort activities. You depart from Borealis Basecamp at 4:30pm. Please note that if we have insufficient snow to run the dogsleds, we will be using utv's as a replacement vehicle.
