Highlights
Explore life and sites of exciting and chaotic Old Dhaka. You will see Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil (the Pink Palace), Star Mosque, Shankhar Bazar, and more if time permits. Be amazed by the culture and sights surrounding you.
Itinerary
Your tour begins with a pickup from your hotel or from the airport.
See the exterior of National Assembly Building (Parliament Building) as you begin your day excursion. This is one of the largest legislative building in the world, designed by the US architect Louis Kahn. We then visit Dhakeshori Temple, a state-owned Hindu temple which is the religious center of the Hindu community in Dhaka. This is also the national Hindu temple in Bangladesh. Next is a visit to Khan Mohammed Mridul Mosque, a beautiful mosque from the Mughal period built on a raised platform.
A brief walk to visit Lalbagh Fort, a beautiful fort from the Mughal period. This is a key tourist attraction in Dhaka city. From there, take a rickshaw and visit Star Mosque, a beautiful mosque fully decorated with stars. You will also see Armenian Church, an orthodox church built by Armenians in Dhaka.
Stop at a restaurant in Sadarghat for lunch (at own expense). After the restaurant, we will take a five minute walk to Ahsan Manzil, the Pink Palace. This is a beautiful and well-maintained palace from the colonial period, which was home of the most influential family in Dhaka. This is another very popular tourist attraction in Old Dhaka. Another five minute walk and we will visit Sadarghat River Station. This is the main river port in Dhaka and one of the largest river stations in South Asia. Passenger ferries leave for southern part of Bangladesh from here to all over Barisal division.
From here we walk to the boat station and ride on the River Buriganga. This river is alive and a vibrant place full of activities. You’ll see hundreds of country boats helping people cross the river. Here you will see small vendors selling goods on their boats, as well as passenger and cargo ferries passing by. Take a short rickshaw ride and walk Hindu Street and Shankharia Bazar. This is a unique and busy place, the center of Hindu culture and community in Old Dhaka, full of jewellery shops, rickshaws, and people.
Get into our car at the end of Hindu Street, and we will take you to your hotel or airport.
