【Kiyomizu-dera Temple】
As one of the representative World Heritage sites, 【Kiyomizu-dera Temple】 was
founded in 778 AD. It is the oldest temple in Kyoto and an important national
treasure of Japan. Climbing the Kiyomizu Stage offers a breathtaking panoramic
view of downtown Kyoto. The 【Jishu Shrine】, located on the north side of the
main hall, is famous for prayers regarding good relationships and love, making
it a romantic sanctuary that couples and believers must visit. (Please cover
your own entrance fees.)
【Sannenzaka & Ninenzaka Slopes】
Located in the area surrounding Kiyomizu-dera, these sloping streets are the
perfect place to experience the ancient charm of Kyoto. Designated as a
'Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings,' the stone-paved
paths are lined with quaint wooden machiya houses, traditional shops, and
teahouses selling various Kyoto sweets, paper fans, dolls, chopsticks, and
other handicrafts that will keep you lingering.
【Ishibe-koji Alley】
Turn right at the end of Sannenzaka and walk north to reach 【Ishibe-koji
Alley】. This cobblestone path is quiet and elegant, lined with well-preserved
traditional Japanese houses. It exudes a serene and graceful atmosphere of the
ancient capital, making it a hidden corner away from the hustle and bustle,
perfect for photography.
【Gion & Hanamikoji Street】
As Kyoto's famous geisha district, 【Hanamikoji Street】 has long been the
center of geisha activity. The street runs north to south and is approximately
1 kilometer long. The southern section preserves traditional wooden houses and
teahouses, full of charm, while the northern section blends in modern
elements. Strolling through it, you can feel the unique classical elegance and
mysterious atmosphere of Kyoto. Even today, geiko and maiko still study
traditional arts such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement, and dance here.
【Yasaka Shrine】
Located in the Gion area, 【Yasaka Shrine】 is one of the most representative
and historic shrines in the Kansai region. Here, you can draw fortune slips,
hang ema (votive tablets), request amulets, and choose from a variety of
heart-shaped ema to pray for success in love.
(Lunch is at your own expense. Feel free to taste authentic Kyoto cuisine,
stroll through the ancient streets, and capture your own unique Kyoto-style
photos.)
In the afternoon, head to 【Fushimi Inari Taisha】 (approx. 70 minutes stay,
free time)
With thousands of vermilion torii gates, 【Fushimi Inari Taisha】 is the head
shrine of all Inari shrines in Japan and is hailed as one of the most popular
Japanese attractions among foreign tourists. The continuous 'Senbon Torii'
(thousands of torii gates) form a dreamlike red tunnel, which is the most
iconic symbol of Kyoto. The ema here feature a white fox design, which
visitors can decorate as they wish to pray for happiness and peace.
【Nara Park】 (approx. 1.5 hours stay, free time)
Located at the foot of Mount Wakakusa, Nara Park is the most representative
city park in Nara. The park features a beautiful contrast between autumn
leaves and evergreen trees, making the scenery stunning in every season. Herds
of sika deer roam freely; they are considered 'messengers of the gods' and
interact closely with visitors. You can buy deer crackers to feed them, but be
careful of the mischievous deer as they enthusiastically 'surround' you!
The park is also surrounded by famous historical sites such as 【Todai-ji
Temple】 and 【Kasuga Taisha Shrine】. The 'Wakakusa Yamayaki' (mountain burning)
held every January is a major winter event in Nara.
【Todai-ji Temple】 (Please cover your own entrance fees)
Also known as the 'Great Kegon Temple,' it was built in 752 AD by order of
Emperor Shomu. It enshrines the Great Buddha (Vairocana) and is the head
temple of the Kegon sect in Japan. Although it suffered fire damage, it was
rebuilt in 1692 and retains its magnificent scale. The main hall, the
'Daibutsuden' (Great Buddha Hall), is 57 meters wide and 50 meters deep,
making it one of the largest wooden structures in the world. Inside, it houses
a 15-meter-tall golden Great Buddha, which is solemn and awe-inspiring. The
temple also preserves important historical buildings such as the Nandaimon
Gate, Nigatsu-do Hall, and Sangatsu-do Hall.
