Highlights
Join us to discover the Titan Arum (Amorphophallus titanium) flower, also known as corpse flower is known for its massive foul-smelling cluster of flowers (inflorescence). The plant is endemic to the steep hillside and rainforest of North Sumatra. The short-lived flower structure is the largest unbranched inflorescence (cluster of flowers) in the world and smells of rotting flesh. Usually, it takes 4- 10 years or more between flowerings and is a major attraction in botanic gardens worldwide when in bloom!
This tour offers a unique experience to hike through pristine rainforest and spot the blooming Titan Arum. Join us now and witness nature's tallest flower!
Itinerary
Gunung Leuser National Park
6 hoursAdmission Ticket FreeThe inflorescence develops over several months, with its growth peaking at a rate of up to 15cm (6 inches) a day. It only blooms for around 24 - 48 hours. While in bloom, the structure generates heat, more than 32 degrees Celsius and produces its “foul smelling” odour to attract flesh flies and carrion beetles for pollination. After 48 hours the flower structure withers. The trek to see the flower varies on the location of bloom of the Titan Arum which can take from 1 hour to 3 hours. Join us for a memorable adventure!North Sumatra
