Highlights

Discover one of Portugal’s most meaningful inland journeys on a private full-day tour from Porto combining Foz Côa’s prehistoric rock art with the elegance of the Douro Valley.

With a licensed driver-guide, travel into Portugal’s interior for a cultural morning shaped around the Côa Valley, where you may add a guided visit to the Canada do Inferno rock art site or the Foz Côa Museum to understand the engravings, their landscape and their extraordinary historical value.

After flexible lunch time, continue toward Pinhão via the scenic N222, with possible viewpoints, the famous railway station azulejos and the calm atmosphere of the Douro River.

Shape the afternoon your way with a Port or Douro wine experience, a food pairing or a Rabelo boat cruise, selected separately after booking with clear pricing and no hidden markups.

A private, cultural and scenic day for travelers who want more than a standard Douro tour.

Itinerary

  • Ponte Ferro-Rodoviária do Pocinho

    2 hoursAdmission Ticket Free
Scenic Drive from Porto to Foz Côa Enjoy a relaxed private transfer into Portugal’s interior, where the landscape becomes drier, quieter and more dramatic. Short scenic pauses may be used when timing and conditions allow, such as the Old Pocinho Railway Bridge or Caminho da Costa Viewpoint.
  • Miradouro do Caminho da Costa

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Foz Côa Cultural Discovery Spend the morning around the cultural cornerstone of the day: the prehistoric engravings and landscape of the Côa Valley. This stop gives the itinerary genuine historical depth before the Douro wine and river elements begin.
  • Parque Arqueológico do Vale do Côa

1 hours 30 minsAdmission Ticket Not Included
Optional Canada do Inferno Rock Art Site Visit If selected after booking, visit the Canada do Inferno Rock Art Site, one of the most meaningful ways to experience the prehistoric engravings in their original landscape. Visits are operated by the museum’s official guides, with site transport managed according to partner and operational conditions. Optional Foz Côa Museum Visit If selected after booking, visit the Foz Côa Museum for essential context about the valley’s engravings, chronology and wider significance. This option is especially useful for guests who want a clear and accessible introduction to the Côa Valley rock art.
  • Restaurante Coa Museu

    1 hoursAdmission Ticket Not Included
Flexible Lunch Block in Foz Côa Lunch is intentionally flexible and not included in the base price. You may choose the museum restaurant for continuity and convenience, a respected local restaurant for a slower regional meal, or another suitable option depending on availability and timing.
  • Quevedo - Quinta Senhora do Rosário

    1 hoursAdmission Ticket Not Included
Choose Your Afternoon Optional Experience After lunch, continue toward the heart of the Douro Valley. The transfer to Pinhão via the N222 is part of the experience, with river scenery and terraced slopes revealing themselves progressively. Select one available afternoon experience after booking, subject to availability and partner confirmation. Options may include a Port wine and cheese pairing, Port tasting, Douro DOC wine tasting, Vintage or Tawny Port experience, or Rabelo boat cruise from Pinhão.
  • Pinhao Railway Station

    30 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Pinhão and Pinhão Railway Station Arrive in Pinhão, one of the Douro Valley’s most emblematic villages. Visit Pinhão Railway Station, famous for its azulejo panels showing vineyard work, harvest scenes and Douro river life, then enjoy a brief riverside pause near the quay.
  • Cais do Pinhão

    45 minsAdmission Ticket Not Included
Optional Douro River Boat Ride If schedules allow, a boat ride may be placed between the wine experience and lunch. Seeing the Douro from the river gives the day a calmer and more scenic rhythm, offering a different perspective on the vineyard terraces and valley landscape.
  • Bagaúste

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Possible Bagaúste Dam or Riverside Pause If time allows, make a short stop near Bagaúste Dam or the riverside area. This adds one final layer of Douro context, showing the river as both a scenic landscape and a working waterway.
  • Folgosa

    20 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Scenic Drive Toward Peso da Régua via the N222 After the afternoon experience, continue along a final scenic section of the N222 toward Peso da Régua. This keeps the return visually engaging without extending the day unnecessarily.
  • Ponte Pedonal Metalica de Peso da Regua

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The metal bridge was built in 1872 by King D. Luís I for road crossing of the Douro River and was deactivated since 1949 due to the state of degradation of the wooden board. The initial project belongs to engineer W. Liebe, and was later changed by engineer Johann Gaspar Harkort and the construction work was under the guidance of German engineer Wilherm Dulhener from the Eifel team.
