- Spot Introduction -
・Bulguksa Temple (Bulguksa)
Bulguksa Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When you think of Gyeongju,
Bulguksa Temple is known as an essential tourist destination. Bulguksa Temple
is a large temple even today, but it is said that in its heyday in the 8th
century, it boasted a magnificent scale with more than 60 wooden buildings
totaling 2,000 bays.
Seokguram Grotto
Located further up the mountain from Bulguksa Temple is Seokguram Grotto, a
cultural treasure considered a representative work of Korean Buddhist art. It
was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 along with Bulguksa
Temple. The Buddha statues are magnificent, but the view of Gyeongju from
Seokguram Grotto is also breathtaking.
・Ancient Tomb Park/Great Mausoleum (Cheonmachong)
Suddenly appearing next to the bustling downtown area of Gyeongju are
numerous ancient tombs! Known as the largest group of ancient tombs in
Gyeongju, this park preserves 23 tombs on a site of approximately 120,000
square meters. Among them, the Cheonmachong Tomb, which was excavated in 1973
and whose interior is open to the public, is open for viewing.
