Mount Pico Night Climb - Reach the Summit for a Magical Sunrise
Mount Pico Night Climb - Reach the Summit for a Magical Sunrise
Night Climb for Small Groups to Pico Mountain
For KrisFlyer members only
Highlights
Tripix Azores has conducted guided climbs to the Peak Mountain since 2015 and our local professional team has already guided more than 10,000 participants on the highest mountain in Portugal.
A night climb requires more than just knowing the route. Progressing on volcanic terrain during the night implies careful management of the pace, visibility, weather conditions and well-being of each participant throughout the ascension.
Our guides work in the Peak Mountain all year round, combining local knowledge of the mountain with a constant attention to safety and changing conditions.
Reaching Piquinho when the day begins to rise over the Atlantic is the moment that defines this experience - the reward after climbing the Peak Mountain overnight.
Itinerary
Mountain House
Climb the Peak Mountain during the night and reach Piquinho, the highest point in Portugal, at 2,351 meters altitude, in time to watch the sunrise on the summit. The Night Climb begins in the early morning, from the House of the Mountain, located at about 1,230 meters altitude. Accompanied by a professional local Guide and with a headlamp, you will make the ascent on the steep and irregular volcanic trail to the crater, then follow up to the Piquinho to watch the sunrise. The full experience typically takes between 7 and 9 hours, depending on the group's rhythm, rail conditions and weather. The trail is approximately 8 km away, with approximately 1,100 meters of positive de-leveling, and includes solidified lava terrain, volcanic rock and some fragments that require greater attention to progress and hand support. It is important to have good physical condition and coordination. During the entire climb, the Guide manages the group’s pace and safety, continuously evaluating the weather and mountain conditions.
