The monastery was built in about 1212. The car road reaches the base of the cliff and then, if you want to go to the monastery, you must follow a path carved into the rock and a wooden bridge.

It is the only cave in Greece penetrated by river. This results in cave’s self-purifying without any human intervention, making the visit there really enjoyable.
