Itinerary

  • 2-chōme-34-20 Sannō

    1. Meet at the central exit of JR Omori Station at 10:30 am. Look for someone with a bag with the "homecoming TAKA" logo on it. 8 minutes walk to my house. On the way, you will pass by a shrine and walk through a quiet residential area. 2. When we arrive at my house, I will explain today's program. Origami → making udon noodles → making Japanese food (sushi, dumplings, etc.) → matcha green tea → souvenir calligraphy colored paper 3. First, origami. Fold the paper crane. 4. After that, make udon noodles. Enjoy the process from materials to completion. You step on the material. 5. We will make sushi and gyoza together as the main menu for lunch. As an experience of Japanese cuisine, it will be the main course of the day. In addition, my wife serves some Japanese small plates. 6. Enjoy conversation and enjoy a leisurely lunch. All materials are made in Japan. Drinks too. Beer, sake, shochu and soft drinks are free. Drink, eat and have a blast! 7. After dinner, make matcha together. Taste matcha with local Japanese sweets. 8. Finally, Keiko will write the visitor's name in calligraphy on colored paper and take it home as a souvenir. 9. It's a regrettable time. My husband and I are easily moved to tears. We will send you off to JR Omori Station, hoping to see you again next time.

Taka-san and Keiko-san were truly wonderful and friendly hosts. They spoke English very well and went the extra mile to ensure guests felt welcome at all times. FYI: Their website charges 14,000 yen per adult (as of March 2026) if price is a consideration for you. I participated as a solo traveller, but was joined by a pair for the experience. The meetup by JR Omori Station went smoothly, whereafter Taka-san showed us a shrine along the way. Upon arriving at their home and meeting Keiko-san, they explained the itinerary. First was the origami lesson, which was made simple and easy thanks to the coaching of Keiko-san. Next came the cooking lessons. We made sushi, udon, and tempura under the guidance of our hosts, along with a bonus experience of blow-torching beef slices. Altogether, this made for a delicious lunch and our hosts managed to cater to guests' dietary needs. Next came the matcha tea ceremony and then finally calligraphy. Guests got to keep their calligraphy work and their origami creations, but additionally Taka-san and Keiko-san spoiled us with more gifts and souvenirs. Taka-san even walked us back to the train station. Truly a marvellous and memorable experience that gave a great taste of Japanese culture. Thank you so much Taka-san and Keiko san!
