Highlights

Kayak out to Uros Island on your own (1h paddle) and get a closer look at the floating islands. You’ll glide through the “water streets,” with the soft splash of the paddle, the scent of fresh totora reeds, and wide views across Lake Titicaca. From the water, you’ll also stop for an overlook of Uros to take it all in.

Then it’s on to Amantani Island, where you’ll meet local families and head to their houses to share a simple, welcoming Andean experience. Daily life here moves at a slower pace, shaped by the lake and the land. Later, you’ll hike up to the top of Amantani Island to watch the sunset over Lake Titicaca, followed by dinner with locals.

After spending the night on Amantani (a great spot for stargazing), on second day you will be in Taquile island best known for their textiles and their famous stones arches.

Itinerary

  • Amantaní

Your kayaking adventure begins with a 7am hotel pickup to the staring tour, where you'll paddle across Lake Titicaca for an hour toward the Uros floating islands. Along the way, watch for native waterbirds skimming over the lake and golden totora reeds swaying in the shallows. After exploring Uros, you'll meet the families who've built their homes entirely from bundled reeds. They'll show you how the islands stay afloat and share stories passed down through generations of living on the water. Then you'll board a motor boat to Amantani Island, leaving the tourist routes behind for a 2.5h crossing. On Amantani, a local family welcomes you into their home for the night. You'll share meals cooked over wood fires—potatoes and quinoa grown on the island's terraced slopes. Help with evening chores if you'd like, or simply sit and watch the sun drop behind the western peaks. At this altitude, with no light pollution, the stars come out sharp and bright. The second day takes you to Taquile, where stone pathways zigzag down from the main plaza to the harbor. Locals in traditional dress shows textiles they've woven themselves. You'll return to Puno around 3:30pm
