Mompox gained importance in colonial times as a rearguard for Cartagena de Indias. We leave Cartagena to head south, crossing the Canal del Dique, and stop at the village San Jacinto, land of hammock weavers and multiple handicrafts. We continue to Mompox via Carmen de Bolivar and Santa Ana to Talaiga Nueva, which lies on the Mompox Island.Centro Historico de Santa Cruz de Mompox
