Highlights
You have probably heard that the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi,is the most multinational and multi-confessional city in the South Caucasus. Followers of both the main world religions and ethno-religious societies have long lived here.
On our tour, you will learn how the new inhabitants of Tiflis adapted to the conditions of modern realities,in which districts and quarters they settled, and how they managed to preserve their centuries-old culture and religion.
According to most modern researchers,it is the Yezidis who are the descendants of the Sumerians, the first civilization on earth.
Throughout their long-suffering history, the Yezidis have survived 74 acts of genocide because of their religious affiliation.Surprisingly, this people managed to almost completely preserve their language, cultural identity and religion. Thanks to the tolerant Georgian people, the Yezidis, along with other ethnic groups living on the territory of Georgia, feel safe and most of them are full-fledged citizens.
Itinerary
Freedom Square
At the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, there was a mass migration of Yezidis from their historical lands to the countries of the South Caucasus,in particular to Armenia and Georgia. This preceded the events associated with ethnic cleansing in the territory of the Ottoman Empire shortly before its fall. During the event, we will tell and show you: Who are the Yezidis? What is their script and what language do they speak? –Let's touch on the topic of national clothes and Yezidi folklore. –You will find out in what quarters of Tbilisi and in what conditions the Yezidis lived in the 19th and 20th centuries and what was their main occupation. –We will visit a Yezidi family and touch on the topic of centuries-old traditions and national dishes. –And also we will tell you how the Yezidis managed to preserve their authentic identity in modern conditions and learn about famous Yezidis in the post-Soviet space. I'm sure you will be surprised. –And closer to the end of the event, accompanied by our guide, we will give our guests the opportunity to visit the“Temple of the Yezidis of Georgia”,located in Tbilisi. There will also be touched upon the main religious topics regarding Yezidism.
