VISITING OLDUVAI GORGE
  • Olduvai Gorge Museum

    5 hoursAdmission Ticket Included
Early in the morning drive about 70km/2hrs to Olduvai Gorge, the arhaelogical research site for over 8yrs and has yielded a long sequence of evidence of human evolution and human environment dynamics collectively extending over a span of almost 4 million years to the early modern era. This area is potential to reveal much more evidence concerning the rise of anatomically modern humans, modern behavior as well as human ecology. There are three separate tracks of small brained early upright walking (Hominid Australopithecus afarensis) found at Laetoli in the west side of Ngorongoro Crater. The Hominid footprints tracks are preserved in volcanic rocks aged 3.6 million years ago which represent evidence over indicating human ability to walk upright since that time. Further more advanced descendants of Laetoli's hominids were found at Olduvai Gorge buried in the layers of soil 100m deep. With excavations, mainly by famous Archeologist Louis and his friend Dr. Mary Leakey yielded four different kinds of Hominids showing gradual increase in brain size and corresponding complexity of using stone tools with continuous inhabitation for over million of years. Lunch time will be spent back unto the camp then drive about 260km/4-5hrs back to your hotel of choice at Arusha/Moshi city with a word of goodbye.
