This day is dedicated to exploring the heart of the Serengeti. After breakfast, set out for a morning game drive when wildlife is most active. After a picnic or camp lunch and a short rest, continue with an afternoon game drive, visiting kopjes (granite rock outcrops) that often serve as lookout points for lions and other predators. These areas are particularly productive for wildlife viewing, especially during the dry season. Begin the day with an early morning game drive from 06:30 to around 09:30, an excellent time to witness predator activity and capture memorable wildlife moments. Return to camp for breakfast, then depart Serengeti toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En route, visit Olduvai Gorge, one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world. Here, you will learn about early human evolution following discoveries made by the Leakey family. Lunch is served near the gorge before continuing to your lodge on the crater rim. After breakfast, descend over 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. The crater’s permanent water sources support a dense population of wildlife, including buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, hippo, elephant, and a strong population of predators such as lion and hyena. With some luck, you may also spot the endangered black rhino. Visit Lake Magadi, a shallow alkaline lake known for flamingos and other water birds, before enjoying a picnic lunch on the crater floor. In the early afternoon, ascend from the crater and begin the drive back to Arusha.
