The complex consists of a towering granite stele and twelve slabs surrounding it, representing the twelve provinces of historical Western Armenia, where the genocide took place. At the base of the monument is an eternal flame, symbolizing the memory of the victims who lost their lives during the genocide. The memorial also includes a museum which showcases the history and atrocities of the genocide.
