Itinerary

  • Cernin Palace

    30 minsAdmission Ticket Free
This tour takes 6 hours. It is provided by A/C private car or minivan. I and the professional driver will pick you up at 9 am in a lobby of the hotel you are staying in. Bottled water will be available in the car for you free of charge. This tour is suitable for the ones who enjoy modern history especially World War II. Our first stop will be Cernin Palace. During World War II the palace was the seat of the Reich Protector. Jan Masaryk, Minister of Foreign Affairs and son of T. G. Masaryk, lived and worked in the Cernin Palace but one day in 1948, the year of the Communist coup, he was found dead under his window. The cause of his death is still a mystery. The palace is situated close to the Loreto. Today Cernin Palace is home to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Petschek Palace

    30 minsAdmission Ticket Not Included
The Petscheks were Jewish. The family fled its home at the start of the war. After the Nazis occupied Prague, Petschek Palace was occupied by Hitler's forces — the people who sent Eisen's mother to Auschwitz in a cattle car.
  • Panenské Břežany, Zámek

1 hours 30 minsAdmission Ticket Not Included
On this extremely interesting tour we also drive outside of Prague to visit the former villas of R.Heydrich and K.H.Frank in Panenské Břežany. It is about 30 min.drive from Prague. Upper Castle (former villa of K.H.Frank) offers now the fantastic exposition dedicated to World War II. We are very lucky to enjoy it! The Panenske Brezany Lower Castle wasn't actually Reinhard Heydrich's home, however. It had been taken from a Jewish businessman of Czech nationality, Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, who had escaped from the country before the Nazis invaded. Assassinated by a Czech commando squad trained in Britain in 1942, his name is still reviled to this day. The decision by Heider Heydrich, his son, to help rebuild the dilapidated castle in Panenske Brezany, near Prague, where he once lived has provoked fury. Thousands have signed an internet petition opposing having anything to do with his offer.
  • St Cyril and St Methodius Cathedral

    30 minsAdmission Ticket Free
In May 1942, two Czechoslovak paratroopers sent to Prague by their government in exile in London carried out the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the Nazi overseer of Czechoslovakia. After the shooting, the paratroopers, along with several partisans who assisted in the plot, fled to the crypt of St. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral. Tragically, another partisan betrayed their whereabouts to the Germans, who first of all tried to shoot their way into the crypt, but when this did not work, pumped a large quantity of water in. On realising there was no escape, the resistance fighters committed suicide. The dramatic story is retold in a museum housed in the crypt of the church where the final events took place, entitled the National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror. The Heydrich assassination led to many innocent people, including almost the entire inhabitants of a village, Lidice, paying with their lives.
