Highlights

— What You Can Expect —

Make your own Thai food during a cooking class at Chiang Mai's Baan Hongnual
Cookery School. Learn directly from professional Thai cooks who will teach you
about the flavours, ingredients, and techniques of cooking Thai food. You'll
get to taste the food as you go. At the end of your class, you'll get an apron
and a certificate to take home with you. If you're one of the millions of
budding cooks around the world who would love to experiment with Thai food,
then this cooking class is for you.

— Highlights —

  • 6 Dishes (4 main courses, 1 Thai dessert, and 1 Thai snack)
  • Nong Hoi Local Market tour
  • Cookbooks in English, with coloured pictures

— Itinerary —

9:00 am

Pick-up at the hotel by an English instructor and head to the Nong Hoi Local
Market via a van ride. Spend about 40 minutes joining the group in purchasing
fresh ingredients (chicken, prawns, herbs, and vegetables) for the class as
well as learning about the interesting tropical vegetation

9:50 am

Continue to Baan Hongnual Cookery School, situated on Chiangmai – Lam Pang Rd,
which is only about 15 minutes away from the market

10:15 am

Arrive and receive a brief introduction to Baan Hongnual, which is an open
kitchen in the Lanna Thai style. All students will be given aprons and
headdresses as cooking uniforms

10:30 am

Wash your hands and get ready for the first dish. Before you start cooking,
you will be introduced to all the kitchen utensils as well as the seasonings
normally needed in Thai cuisine. Secondly, you’ll be shown how to prepare all
the ingredients, and techniques to cook them. You will receive step-by-step
instructions during your class. After the first dish is done, you’ll be given
time to taste its delicious flavours

11:00 am

Go on to cook the second dish over the next 30 minutes, including food
preparations, cooking, and tasting

11:30 am

Continue to cook the third and the fourth dishes, within about an hour
including preparing, cooking, and having lunch with some steamed rice

1:00 pm

Take a small break of about 15 minutes for some tea, coffee, or herbal drinks
(complimentary by the school). Students can spend time walking around the
herbs and vegetable plantations, as well as see different kinds of fruits like
longan, mango, rose apple, and many others

1:30 pm
