The village of Kouklia was once the ancient capital of Cyprus. In Roman times a place of rural residence for wealthy citizens. The village is home to the Sanctuary of Aphrodite. Also the church of Panagia Odigitria and the Palaepaphos museum are in the area. In the surrounding countryside remnants of a siege wall and ancient burial grounds can be seen. There are beautiful views of the Paphos coastline and the Troodos mountains
