Highlights

Guwahati is an ancient city. It was earlier known as 'Pragjyotishpur' meaning the seat of astrological studies in the east. Tantric worship also propagated around the famous Kamakhya Temple which is an important shrine of the Shakti cult being one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India.     Kamakhya devi temple situated on the Nilachal parvat in Guwahati is one of the 51 Shakti Pithas of India and an important pilgrimage destination especially for Tantric worshippers. A stairway through a bazaar of colourful shops takes one to the temple. It is a monument with both historical and religious importance.

  • Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre

    This 170 years old Heritage building, the erstwhile Deputy Commissioner's Bungalow converted into a heritage centre dedicated to the legacy of the river Brahmaputra is the latest addition to the attractions of the city. It has galleries dedicated to historical artefacts, photographs, arts and crafts, handloom products etc. It also boasts of some of the best views of the Brahmaputra river.

  • Sri Umananda Temple

    2 hoursAdmission Ticket Included
    Umananda temple on Umananda Island is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. It is the smallest inhabited river island. Guests will cross a ferry to reach the temple and come back.
