Here, you’ll also see toppled moai statues, remnants of clan conflicts that shaped the island’s past. We continue to the ceremonial village of Orongo, perched on the edge of the Rano Kau volcano. This sacred place was the center of the Tangata Manu (“Birdman”) competition — a fascinating ritual that decided which clan would rule the island each year. Finally, admire the dramatic views from the Rano Kau lookout, overlooking one of the most impressive volcanic craters in Polynesia, filled with lush vegetation and a mirror-like lagoon.Ahu Akivi
