We will leave from San Pedro de Atacama towards the south, crossing the Salar de Atacama basin. First we will visit the town of Toconao, its Church of San Lucas and its old fruit orchards. Then we will go to the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile and the third largest salt flat in the world. Once on the salt flat, we will walk along the paths of the Chaxa lagoon, which is part of the Los Flamencos national reserve. This lagoon is a nesting place and habitat for the three species of flamingos that inhabit Chile: Andean flamenco, Chilean flamenco and James flamenco. Later, we will visit the Altiplanic lagoons, starting with the Miscanti lagoon. It is a nesting site for the tagua cornuda, bird of the Altiplano, and is located at the foot of the Miscanti hill, in the Andes mountain range next to its sister, the Miñiques lagoon. This lagoon is at the foot of the Miñiques volcano, whose eruption involves the formation of the two lagoons millions of years ago. On the way back, we will pass through the town of Socaire, a place that is characterized by the maintenance of cultivated terraces since pre-Hispanic times. In the end, we will reach San Pedro de Atacama.
