Located within Shoningahama Park in Beppu City, Sand SPA is the only seaside
sand bath facility in the city. The history of this sand bath dates back to
the Heian period, and after centuries, it remains beloved by locals and
travelers alike. Today, it has been reimagined as a modern hot spring
facility, becoming a new healing landmark in Beppu.
Step into the sand bath area, where staff will carefully cover your body with
warm sand. Feel the gentle sea breeze as you take in the panoramic view of
Beppu Bay. A 15-minute sand bath session will slowly warm your body from the
inside out. The facility cleans and heats the sand bed with hot spring water 9
times a day and uses a rotating area system to ensure every guest enjoys
fresh, clean sand.
After your sand bath, rinse off and move to the spacious ocean-view public
bath. Stretch out in the hot spring pool and quietly admire the seamless
horizon of Beppu Bay. A free foot bath area is available outside, and you can
also relax in the bar area after your bath (drinks available for purchase),
making your hot spring journey complete.

Please confirm before purchasing tickets: those who are advised by a doctor not to bathe in hot springs, those in poor health, pregnant women, those suffering from acute illnesses, malignant tumors, severe heart disease, respiratory failure, kidney failure, hemorrhagic diseases, skin diseases, or other ongoing illnesses, those with pacemakers, those with implanted metal devices, and those who wish to bathe after consuming alcohol.
- It is recommended to postpone use during menstruation for health reasons.
- When entering the bath, you must wear the designated bath robe for the sand bath; personal clothing is not allowed.
- Please follow the instructions of the staff; anyone who intentionally damages facilities or supplies will be responsible for the costs.
