After two botched attempts at finding a truly PRIVATE tour, I was able to book this great excursion kind of last minute. Driver met us right outside the port and took us to Hercules’ Cave, to the markets and the beach where people go on camel rides (we didn’t partake). Some of the stops can be considered tourist traps but then the itinerary is up to you so better be clear in advance about what you want to do. We were taken around the neighborhood for sight seeing and to the food and crafts markets for some shopping. Then we were taken to a very good local restaurant (Hamadi) in the heart of Tangier and went to the rooftop where you can get a nice view of all the city. From a car driven tour it became a walking tour and we were treated to lunch, a couple of souvenirs and even some local perfume. We were dropped off at the ship’s shuttle stop. In all it was a much longer tour than expected. It was a very culturally immersive experience. Lunch was truly delicious and we still talk about the friendliness and kindness of our tour guide.
