The Gianicolo is a Roman hill, facing the right bank of the Tiber, whose maximum height is 88 meters, not included in the category of the seven traditional hills. The eastern slope slopes towards the river and at the base is the historic district of Trastevere, while the western one, less steep, guaranteed the oldest part of the modern Monteverde district; to the southwest of the hill is Villa Doria Pamphili, while on its eastern slopes are the Botanical Garden of Rome and the prison of Regina Coeli. Together with Monte Mario and the Pincio it is one of the most panoramic places in the city with a view east of the neighboring districts and the historic center with the major architectural monuments of the city up to the Alban Hills, the Tiburtini Mountains, Prenestini and the major Apennine peaks western central (Terminillo, Velino, Monti Simbruini).
