Visit Hammam Street, the main shopping district in As-Salt for over 150 years. Built between 1881-1884, Hammam Street is a pedestrian zone, paved to resemble the old main street. Walk Al-Eskafyeh Street, a short street that connects Hammam Street to Al-Khader Street. Eskafi means shoemaker in Arabic, where the role of the shoemaker doesn’t just exist in children’s books: he is still very much in business on the Al-Eskafyeh stairs, making and repairing shoes. As-Salt has preserved and supported its independent local business owners, holding on to its economic originality with different sweet shops, butchers, perfumeries, nuts shops, and spice shops.
