Why to hike in Characato? por que este lugar fue el primer asentamiento para los conquistadores españoles (June 24, 1541). Considered the first spanairs town in Arequipa region.

As a freindly and laboriuos people from Characato, they offers a great alternative to taste the true flavor of the culinary art in Arequipa at the local restaurants as known as "Picanterias".

Itinerary

    The half day hike begins with great view of entire countrisyde of Characato valley - The trail is mostly gradual with some small uphill sections following well preserved trail upper the farming fields and seeing local farmers on their daily activities since colonial times. If you chose to practice this hike in the morning, for sure will be very hot and is recommended to wear good hat, long sleeve T-Shirt and sun proctection. The distance to hike is betwenn 6KM and 8KM, which is around 3hrs through great countryside atmosphere. For morning departs (8AM), the hikers can have the alternative to be drop-off at local restaurante as known as "Picanteria" to really taste the genuine cuisine of Arequipa region, considered one of the best in Peru. Characato offers good Picanterias (local restaurants) to have lunch and satified your taste.
