Highlights

Discover one of the most secluded parts of the Hardangerfjord on a small-group RIB safari from Norheimsund. This guided boat tour takes you into Fyksesund, a narrow and peaceful fjord branch where large tour boats cannot go. Surrounded by steep mountains, waterfalls, and quiet waters, you’ll experience a more intimate side of the fjord landscape.
Along the way, your local captain shares stories about the area’s nature, history, and fjord life. You’ll cruise past dramatic scenery, slow down for photo stops, and visit the roadless hamlet of Botnen – a historic settlement that offers a glimpse into life in this remote part of Hardanger.

Fyksesund changes character throughout the year. In spring and after rainfall, waterfalls stream down the mountainsides. In winter, many freeze into striking ice formations.

This 75-minute RIB tour is ideal for travelers who want to combine scenic beauty, local storytelling, and a thrilling boat ride without the crowds in every season.

An absolutely unforgettable experience from start to finish. An absolute must. Getting there from Bergen: take Bus 925 from Bergen Bus Station to Norheimsund Terminal (about 1 hour 30 minutes, around 80 NOK one way). Check the Skyss app beforehand. The views were stunning despite the cloudy weather. We sped past waterfalls, waterfront homes, low clouds. Being so close to the water made the experience far more immersive than a traditional sightseeing cruise. Our guide, Teo, was friendly, professional and told us interesting stories about the area. We were lucky: it was a mid-week shoulder-season departure and we were the only two on the 12-seater boat, so it felt almost like a private tour. It wasn’t cheap, but worth our very first RIB experience. One word of caution: secure your glasses, hats and loose items. The boat can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h and the wind is very strong. My prescription glasses were blown off and sadly now resides at the bottom of Hardangerfjord. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Even after accidentally tossing my brand-new glasses into Hardangerfjord.
