Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most visited archaeological sites in the Americas. Next, we head to a sinkhole (a.k.a. cenote). Created as a result of a meteor crashing into the area approximately 66 million years ago and used only centuries ago by the indigenous tribe for sacrificial offerings, nowadays this cenote is used by tourists like us who enjoy swimming in clear waters. Lunch is included on today’s tour, near the cenote. Lastly, we visit a colonial town called Valladolid. There we have around 30 minutes to walk around freely. After our meal, we head to a beach resort town called Akumal. There we swim near to sea turtles. Snorkeling gear is included. The day ends in Cancun. We make sure to check out the 'Hotel Zone'. Also, included on this beach club is an open bar. After our meal, we get back onto the catamaran and are taken to the other side of the island. This is where the city center is located. The highlights are a crocodile farm, a boat ride in the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve and the pink lakes of a stretch of land called Las Coloradas. Ría Lagartos is best known for the crocodiles and flamingos found in its waters. Las Coloradas features huge salt evaporation ponds used for sea salt extraction.
