The trail climbs steadily through the lush rainforest, home to towering trees, hanging moss, colorful flowers, and a variety of wildlife including black-and-white colobus monkeys. This scenic hike is the perfect introduction to Africa's highest mountain as you gain altitude while enjoying the peaceful forest surroundings. Arrive at Machame Camp (3,000 m) in the afternoon, where your mountain crew prepares dinner before your first overnight on the mountain.

This "climb high, sleep low" strategy helps improve acclimatization and prepares you for the higher elevations ahead. Overnight at Barranco Camp (3,960 m).
