— What You Can Expect —


Climbing Mount Kinabalu is an incredible experience, though some preparations
have to be made in order to be allowed to climb the mountain, such as
transportation to go there, applying for a climbing permit, arranging for a
mountain guide, and booking accommodation and meals when you are there.
However, we make it simple for you and at a value for money price. All you
need to do is just bring yourself and enjoy the rest of the tour!

Itinerary

  • 06:00

    Pick-up from your hotel lobby and depart on a 2 hrs journey to Kinabalu Park Headquarter. Collect your packed lunch.

  • You'll then be transferred to starting point – Timpohon Gate – where your journey and quest to the summit of Borneo’s highest mountain begins!

  • The climb will take approximately 4-5 hours. The trek will pass by different vegetation zones from Oak and Chestnut to mossy and eventually to alpine type of vegetations.

  • 09:00

    Our guide will arrange for all necessary registrations, assign you a mountain guide and apply for your ID TAG. Remember to wear your ID TAG at all times.

  • 15:00

    Arrive at Pendant Hut @ 3,289 m and settle in

  • 15:30

    Attend the mandatory Via Ferrata familiarization in Pendant Hut and meet your Mountain Torq trainer.

  • 18:00

    Buffet Dinner at Laban Rata restaurant and overnight at Pendant Hut.

  • 20:00

    Lights out

  • 01:30

    Wake up and have your early morning supper at Pendant Hut

  • 02:30

    Continuation of journey towards the summit of Mount Kinabalu.

  • 05:40

    Summit Low's peak @ 4,095m and catch the sunrise.

  • 06:00

    Descend from Low’s Peak to meet your Mountain Torq’s Trainer

  • 06:30

    Meet your Via Ferrata trainer at the 7.5 km mark for your Low’s Peak Circuit via ferrata experience (Intermediate Via Ferrata, 4 to 5 hrs, French grade: AD)

  • 11:00

    Arrive at Pendant Hut for a well-earned breakfast

  • 12:00

    Check out of Pendant Hut.

  • Descend to Timpohon Gate.

  • Arrive at Timpohon Gate (Est. arrival 1600hrs to 1800hrs) and transfer to headquarter to collect certificate of achievement.

  • Lunch will be served in Kinabalu Park.

  • Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu city. Journey takes approx. 2 hrs.

  • Disposable raincoats
  • Head torch (compulsory)
  • Personal toiletries
  • Refillable water bottle (0.5–1 litre)
  • High-energy food such as chocolates, nuts, biscuits, sweets, energy bars
  • Medication such as headache tablets or altitude sickness tablets
  • Tissue paper / toilet roll
  • Sun block lotion, lip gloss, plasters
  • Insect repellent / mosquito oil
  • Camera with water proof bag
  • Sandals / slippers
  • Plastic bags

- The itinerary is for reference only and subject to any necessary changes in accordance to local requirements

- Balsam Cafe & Laban Rata Restaurant no longer provide hot water/drinking water for climbers. Mineral water is available for purchase at the grocery counter at MYR7 for 500ml / MYR14 for 1.5 liters. Coffee and tea will only be provided during breakfast and supper

- Children aged 10 years old and above may participate

- Lunch will be converted to packed meal on Day 02 (Mt Kinabalu Descent) for climbers who arrive late and missed the local restaurant's opening hours. (Restaurant Business Hour 07:00hrs - 20:00hrs)

- Climbers who reach Timpohon Gate after 16:30 Hrs will be imposed a fee of MYR 15 per hour per guide and need to pay directly to mountain guide on the spot.

Reminders
Climbers are allowed to hike to the mountain hut on day 1, even if it is raining; Sabah Park has the right to close the gate to the summit on day 2 due to safety reasons. There will be no refund / postponement in this case
Climbers MUST present their original passport/IC for climb registration at Kinabalu Park HQ on the actual day of climb. Please bring it along with you
Climbers MUST attend the compulsory Via Ferrata briefing/training session in Pendant Hut between 3:00 pm–4:00 pm (latest cut-off time) on 1st day of climb
Climbers MUST descend and arrive at starting point by 6:30 am (LPC) or 7:15 am(WTT) for each activity (latest cut-off time) on 2nd day of climb
All Via Ferrata activities will be conducted together in mixed groups by qualified Mountain Torq Ferrata trainers
Climbers who fail to comply with the timing will not be able to proceed with the selected Via Ferrata Teaser activity. NO reimbursement shall be made
Via Ferrata activity can be cancelled due to bad weather for the safety of all climbers. NO reimbursement shall be made
Please do not rush or be disappointed should you not be able to make it on time or if the activity is cancelled. Safety comes first, as you can still reach the Low’s Peak summit without going through the Via Ferrata activity
Operators reserve the right to change or cancel the customer’s reservation in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. For some Climbing Itineraries to operate successfully, a minimum number of customers are required. Should the number of customers fail to reach the minimum number required, Operators reserve the right to cancel the customer’s reservation
In the event of Clause 6.1.1 occurring and if an alternative climbing activity is not available or acceptable to the customer, the customer will be entitled to either a full refund or transfer to another Operator's activity/itinerary without payment of any transfer fee. The customer agrees that if they select to transfer to another Operator's activity/itinerary of higher value, the difference in price between the original selected Mountain Torq Activity and the newly selected Operator's activity/itinerary will the borne by the customer
If the change or cancellation is due to force majeure events (including but not limited to political unrest, war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, closure of airports or ports, industrial disputes, terrorist activity, natural and nuclear disasters, fire, epidemic or health risk, Acts of God, flood, adverse weather conditions, or other similar events beyond Operators' control), the customer agrees that no refund will be made by Operators
Operators reserve the right to change or cancel the activities if the safety of the customers and / or Operator staff's will be compromised. The customer agrees that no form of compensation will be made by Operators
Operators shall not be responsible for the costs of any other travel arrangement affected due to the cancellations or rescheduling of any Climbing Itineraries
Operators constantly strive to improve the Itinerary. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond their control make changes necessary, the customer agrees and acknowledges that Operators reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute activities, accommodation, and meals without prior notice to the customer
Operators shall not be responsible for any other travel arrangements affected due to the changes to the Itineraries
