–What You Can Expect–
Explore the magnificent history of Ayutthaya, the former capital of Thailand,
designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.
This one-day exclusive tour promises a remarkable experience of Buddhist
history, along with a traditional Thai longtail boat ride, providing a unique
and unforgettable journey.
–Ayutthaya History–
Ayutthaya, founded around 1350, once served as the second capital of the
Siamese Kingdom after Sukhothai. Sadly, it was later ravaged by the Burmese in
the 18th century. However, the remnants of its past glory, characterized by
prang (reliquary towers) and grand monasteries, still stand as a testament to
its former splendor.
Situated approximately 80 kilometers north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya was a
thriving international trading port and the capital of the Kingdom of Siam
until it was razed by the Burmese in 1767. Today, the ruins of the old city
form the Ayutthaya Historical Park, an awe-inspiring archaeological site
boasting palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries, and statues. The park is
nestled on an island encircled by three rivers.
–Highlights of the Tour–
Wat Mahathat: This royal monastery was a significant spiritual center during the Ayutthaya period. Despite experiencing several restorations and renovations, it collapsed in 1904. The Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture carried out its restoration in 1956. Within the temple, you can find Buddha enshrined in a stupa, along with other Buddha statues and offerings. The museum also displays numerous excavated artifacts.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet: Stands as a majestic temple in Ayutthaya, renowned as the largest and most exquisite of its kind. This iconic monument serves as a symbol of Ayutthaya's grandeur. Notably, its pagoda houses a significant relic – a central chamber containing relics, attire, and a revered Buddha statue, commemorating three esteemed kings from different eras.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram: Inspired by Khmer-style architecture, King Prasat built this temple as a tribute to his mother, imitating the grandeur of Angkor Wat. From here, you can catch a glimpse of the overall view of Angkor Wat in miniature.
Ayutthaya Prawn Market: Presents a local market experience in Ayutthaya, offering budget-friendly shrimp dishes and a diverse selection of authentic Thai cuisine. The market features numerous stalls, providing the freedom to indulge in a variety of delectable options. It's a destination that guarantees both palate satisfaction and affordability, marrying taste and value seamlessly.
Firefly Boat Tour: Experience the mesmerizing fireflies that come alive at 6 pm. This tour combines a shared boat ride with a visit to Amphawa Floating Market. Over the course of approximately an hour, you'll explore the canals, witnessing the captivating sight of living fireflies. Notably, the firefly population is abundant until October during the rainy season, and their numbers decrease in the dry season. (Please note that boat boarding times may vary based on the season.)
