–Ayutthaya History–

Ayutthaya, founded around 1350, once served as the second capital of the
Siamese Kingdom after Sukhothai. Sadly, it was later ravaged by the Burmese in
the 18th century. However, the remnants of its past glory, characterized by
prang (reliquary towers) and grand monasteries, still stand as a testament to
its former splendor.

Situated approximately 80 kilometers north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya was a
thriving international trading port and the capital of the Kingdom of Siam
until it was razed by the Burmese in 1767. Today, the ruins of the old city
form the Ayutthaya Historical Park, an awe-inspiring archaeological site
boasting palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries, and statues. The park is
nestled on an island encircled by three rivers.

–Highlights of the Tour–

• Wat Mahathat: This royal monastery was a significant spiritual center during the Ayutthaya period. Despite experiencing several restorations and renovations, it collapsed in 1904. The Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture carried out its restoration in 1956. Within the temple, you can find Buddha enshrined in a stupa, along with other Buddha statues and offerings. The museum also displays numerous excavated artifacts.

  
  

• Wat Phra Si Sanphet: Stands as a majestic temple in Ayutthaya, renowned as the largest and most exquisite of its kind. This iconic monument serves as a symbol of Ayutthaya's grandeur.
