Watch the sunrise over Bromo, surrounded by Batok (extinct, 2400 m) and Semeru (active, 3677 m, Java’s highest volcano). After sunrise, cross the “Sea of Sand,” a vast volcanic ash plain. Then visit Seruni viewpoint for panoramic views of the Tengger massif. After breakfast, continue through villages and plantations toward Kawah Ijen, with local lunch en route.
