Beylerbeyi Palace was commissioned by Sultan Abdülaziz (1830–1876) and built between 1861 and 1865 as a summer residence and place to entertain visiting heads of state. Empress Eugenie of France visited Beylerbeyi on her way to the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. Empress Eugenie of France was so amazed by the elegance of the palace that she made a copy of the window in the guest room for her bedroom in the Tuileries (palace in Paris). let. Naser al-Din Shah Qajar of Iran stayed at the palace while in Istanbul en route from the World Exposition (1889) in France. Other royal visitors to the palace included the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Camlica Hill has been the ideal place to get a bird's-eye view of Istanbul since Ottoman times. Camlica Hill, one of the seven hills of Istanbul, consists of two independent hills, Big Camlica and Little Camlica. The Çamlıca Mosque is visible from afar on a hilltop in the Üsküdar-Çamlıca district on the Asian side of the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul. In addition to the mosque, the building complex also includes a museum, an art gallery, a library, a conference hall and an underground car park.
