We meet at The Exchange Hotel, a heritage-listed pub dating back to the 1880s, then set off on foot through Balmain’s back lanes, stairways and hidden corners. Along the way you’ll discover colonial architecture, charming cottages, gardens, street art and the community spirit of this inner-Sydney suburb. Your photo guide, Colin, will show you easy features on your phone for creative photography: composition, light, close-up macro shots and more. He’ll also show you a free editing app to turn your photos into little works of art. More than a photo lesson, it’s a chance to slow down and really observe. Call it mindful photography: noticing the details most people walk straight past. We finish back at The Exchange at 1pm, just in time for lunch at one of Balmain’s many cafés or pubs.
