출발지:
For the special performance sessions, Cheung specially invites Cantonese Opera
artist Leung Fei-tung to participate, reinterpreting Lady Wei's story and the
spirit of her brush techniques through water-sleeve dance and operatic
movement. Together, the creators translate the seven fundamental brushstroke
imagery from the Bizhentu, including "Thousand-Mile Cloud Array," "Peak-
Descending Stone," and "Hundred-Weight Bowstrings Released," into dynamic
visual projections and contemporary Cantonese Opera.
Bizhentu, a classic essay attributed to Lady Wei and believed to date from the
4th century, systematically expounds on the characteristics of brushstrokes,
writing techniques, brush grip, and ink usage. Despite its enduring influence,
Lady Wei's own calligraphic works lack clear documentation and survive only as
a blurred fragment of history.
Waving Script - Bizhentu explores the emptiness (空性) of calligraphy between
the realms of the intentional (有為) and the unintentional (無為) through its dual
modes of “exhibition” and “performance.” As the water-sleeve sweeps through
the air, generated ink-form projections cascade upon the dancer, each gesture
becomes a living brushstroke in motion.
