Venture beyond Munich to the shimmering shores of Bavaria’s largest lake on this full-day rail trip to the Chiemsee’s Herreninsel and Fraueninsel. Step into the opulent world of King Ludwig II with a guided tour of Herrenchiemsee Palace, a Versailles-inspired masterpiece on Herreninsel, where gilded staterooms—the State Staircase, Great Hall of Mirrors, and rococo Small Apartment—dazzle amid elegant gardens. Then, sail to Fraueninsel, a 1,300-year-old island gem, to roam its historic Benedictine convent and tranquil paths at your leisure. With round-trip train tickets included, it’s a seamless escape framed by Bavarian lakes and mountains.
Begin at München Hauptbahnhof, gliding by rail to Prien am Chiemsee, where a short boat ride (own expense) carries you to Herreninsel’s lavish castle—think porcelain chandeliers and golden vistas. After soaking in its grandeur, hop on another boat to Fraueninsel, where ancient spirituality and island calm invite exploration. Wander past lime trees and fisherman cottages, the convent’s legacy whispering through time. Castle admission and boat fares are extra, letting you tailor the day. Book now and let Chiemsee’s islands weave a spell of history, beauty, and serenity into your Munich adventure.

The tour itself was great although I believe the guide should be more familiar with opening hours of restaurants better on the island. In addition - the journey back on the train is rather chaotic and some of us do not have a seat and stood all the way back to Munich.
